Shrek the Musical will begin its Broadway Musical performances on November 11, 2008 at the Broadway theater, 1681 Broadway. Its official opening is December 14, 2008 with an open-ended closing.
This all-new Broadway musical production is based on Shrek's adventures in the classic William Steig book and the Oscar winning film. Shrek (Brian D'Arcy James), the fearsome ogre makes a deal with the wanna-be king to rescue his betrothed Princess Fiona (Sutton Foster), a damsel in distress. Joining Shrek on his journey from the swamp to the stage will be his wise-cracking sidekick Donkey (Chester Gregory II), Princess Fiona, Lord Farquaad (Christopher Sieber) and a chorus of everyone's favorite fairytale characters. This fractured fairy tale offers many surprises.
Before officially becoming a Broadway show Shrek will be at the 5th Avenue theater in Seattle from August 14-September 21.
