"9 to 5," based on the 1980s film, will be a new Broadway musical with songs written by none other than Dolly Parton. Parton starred in the original film and was nominated for an Oscar for writing the title song. She starred with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. The story involves 3 office colleagues who attempt to turn the table on a sexist, lying boss.
The Broadway musical will include Dolly Parton's original score plus 20 new songs. "9 to 5" will first play in Los Angeles this September and come to the Broadway musical stage on April 23, 2009. Allison Janney and Stephanie J. Block from "The West Wing" will play the roles of Tomlin and Fonda respectively. Marc Kudisch will play the sexist, woman crazy boss.
