broadway musical, broadway tickets

Although it had its debut back in the 1980s and garnered multiple Tony nominations, the bloody good Broadway musical Sweeney Todd was judged a flop two decades ago because the original production was so massive and expensive, the venerable Sondheim musical has been revived in a new production and is touring the country. This new production, which I was lucky enough to see on April 20th of this year, is strikingly staged on a simple stage with a cast of only ten people, in stark contrast to the huge cast of the earlier Broadway musical. This version of the Broadway musical is set in a 19th Century insane asylum, with the players seeming to be the patients and staff of the institution. It's an interesting notion for a Broadway musical and is well-done since all of the cast also double up as the orchestra, with some cast members playing multiple instruments. If it comes to your area, I recommend that you get Broadway tickets for this latest revival of a great, if somewhat challenging Broadway musical.
